19-Deck Floating Resort Anchors Saudi Cruise Tourism
Saudi Cruise Tourism has entered a new era with the launch of AROYA Cruises, the Kingdom’s first homegrown cruise line. Operated by Cruise Saudi and backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), AROYA began operations on December 16, 2024, with its inaugural sailing from Jeddah Islamic Port. The ship, aptly named Aroya, is a 19-deck floating resort that accommodates 3,362 passengers across 1,678 cabins and suites.
Every detail of the vessel reflects Saudi hospitality, from its design to its culinary offerings. With 12 restaurants and 17 cafés, the ship serves cuisine from five continents while spotlighting authentic Saudi flavors. This blend of global and local identity has positioned AROYA as a cultural ambassador at sea, reinforcing the Kingdom’s tourism ambitions.
Mediterranean Expansion in 2025 Strengthens Saudi Cruise Tourism
Less than a year after its Red Sea debut, AROYA Cruises expanded into the Mediterranean. On June 28, 2025, the ship set sail from Galataport in Istanbul, marking a milestone for Saudi Cruise Tourism. The summer itinerary included Athens, Mykonos, Souda Bay, Bodrum, and Alexandria, with six- to seven-night voyages running through mid-September.
This expansion demonstrated the cruise line’s ability to compete in established global markets while offering a distinctly Saudi experience. By combining scenic Mediterranean destinations with Saudi cultural hospitality, AROYA positioned itself as a unique player in the international cruise industry.
Arabian Gulf Season in 2026 Adds New Dimension to Saudi Cruise Tourism
AROYA Cruises is now preparing for its first Arabian Gulf season, scheduled for February to April 2026. The line will sail from Dubai and Dammam, bringing Saudi Cruise Tourism into one of the world’s most competitive cruise regions.
The Arabian Gulf expansion highlights the Kingdom’s strategy to diversify its tourism offerings under Vision 2030. By entering this market, AROYA not only strengthens regional connectivity but also introduces Saudi cultural experiences to a broader audience of Gulf travelers.
Cultural Identity at Sea: Saudi Cruise Tourism’s Differentiator
What sets Saudi Cruise Tourism apart is its cultural authenticity. AROYA has partnered with the Culinary Arts Commission to launch Irth, the first Saudi restaurant at sea. Guests can also enjoy camel milk products through a collaboration with Sawani’s Noug brand.
Beyond dining, the ship integrates Saudi traditions into its entertainment and design. A retail district inspired by souqs, a 1,018-seat theatre, and the largest children’s area at sea (1,800 square meters) showcase the Kingdom’s ability to merge heritage with modern leisure. Dedicated prayer areas and women-only spa hours further reflect cultural respect, making Saudi Cruise Tourism both inclusive and distinctive.
Luxury Enclaves and Global Ambitions Drive Saudi Cruise Tourism
For premium travelers, AROYA offers the Khuzama enclave—a ship-within-a-ship concept with 145 suites and nine villas. The largest villa spans 395 square meters, providing exclusive services and amenities. This luxury tier aligns with Saudi Cruise Tourism’s goal of attracting high-value travelers seeking privacy and cultural immersion.
Looking ahead, AROYA Cruises has announced plans to expand into Northern Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. These future deployments will extend Saudi Cruise Tourism beyond regional waters, positioning the Kingdom as a global player in the cruise industry.
Saudi Cruise Tourism as a Pillar of Vision 2030
AROYA Cruises embodies Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by diversifying the economy and investing in tourism infrastructure. In less than two years, the cruise line has grown from a Red Sea debut to Mediterranean operations, with Arabian Gulf and global expansions on the horizon.
Saudi Cruise Tourism is no longer a niche experiment—it is a rapidly scaling industry that blends cultural authenticity with world-class hospitality. By anchoring its growth in both tradition and innovation, the Kingdom is charting a course toward becoming a global hub for cruise tourism.
